View Full Version : automatically delete mail from server

For some reason, my hostmonster account is not deleting email from my server upon download. I have looked on my acct settings and cannot find a place to check for "delete mail upon download". Is there an simple way to do this?
I do not use hostmonster's webmail, but instead have my email forwarded to my Yahoo acct.
I have several email accts and have a heavy volume of mail, so it would be time consuming to have to do so manually.
Thanks in advance.

The forward function does not delete email after the forward. It actually "stores and forwards" the mail. I am afraid the way you have it set up right now means you will have to log into your HM webmail for the account(s) you have forwarded and delete the email you don't want to save.
Not to fret, there is a way around this ...
Keep the forwards in place and delete the actual account from HM. Thus, you will have a forward from a "ghost" email address to a Yahoo! address. Also thus .... you won't have any emails stored on HM.
Before you do this on a "live" email address, why not set up a test forward. Set up a forward for, say, firstname.lastname@example.org to go to your Yahoo! account. Then send an email to this new address and see if you get it in Yahoo!.

These* instructions explain how to add an email forwarder which automatically COPIES (not MOVES) emails from a source emailadres to a destination emailadres.
So, this method does NOT REMOVE the copied email in the mailbox of the source emailadres.
NB: The POP3 method (suggested in aforementioned instructions to MOVE emails) downloads or 'pulls' emails periodically at some interval. It does NOT deliver or 'push' emails to the destination emailadres right (!) after they arrive at the source emailadres.
