Greetings everyone!

Lately, I came up with the brilliant idea of trying to get more users more involved in the forums. For the past year, we have been met with steady growth, and lately, I have been hearing users looking for ways to get more involved.

Though our community is quick to offer friendly, professional help, I have been thinking of ways to provide members a greater chance to get more involved in the forum community. To that end, I am introducing the User Submitted Tutorial Thread.

This thread will be a link to tutorials our members have taken the time to write up and submit to the forums. I regret not being able to make each submitted tutorial a sticky itself, but if I did that, we would wind up with pages of sticky threads before getting to individual questions.

Because of the hopefully large number of tutorials we will be receiving, I will create a new post each time someone submits a tutorial that gets accepted. The post will contain a link and a short description of the tutorial.

Any questions about the subject should be directed to the creator of the tutorial and not this thread.

If you have an idea for a tutorial, you can either submit your idea to me via private message, or better yet, create one yourself and submit it to me for review. Once accepted, I will ask you to create a thread and will link to it from here.

I can only hope this helps increase traffic to the site and gives users the answers they are seeking.

~regards

Our first user submitted tutorial is brought to us by in4m8n. In this tutorial, he explains in detail the steps he took to transfer his domain from his former host to hostmonster.

If you are planning on doing the same thing, this tutorial will provide you with the steps needed to accomplish your task.

Have you just signed up with your web host provider and have absolutely ZERO idea of where to get started? Before you begin uploading pictures or videos to share with your family and friends, there are some terms you really should become familiar with.

Follow the link below to learn about the very basic of the basics of building and maintaing a website. This tutorial was written by yours truly upon request by several members in the community.

One of the most asked questions on the boards here is "How do I connect to my database?"

While this question has been asked and answered many times before, I haven't seen a step-by-step tutorial on how to go about setting up the database and inserting the information into most install scripts.

That is where this tutorial comes in. Read, and post comments and questions here:

Happy reading ... it's a long tutorial ...

Our next tutorial comes from crabpot8. In this video tutorial, he explains how to go about setting up SSH/Shell access to your Hostmonster account using a public/private key pair and putty (a SSH client for Windows).

Here is a link to the Hostmonster thread:

Using SSH / Shell Access on HM (http://www.hostmonsterforum.com/showthread.php?t=3797)

You can leave comments here in the forum, or directly on the site hosting the tutorial.

Greetings!

The next tutorial for our members has been written by yours truely (yes, again). It's taken me almost 3 full days to find the answers located in this tutorial so I really hope it helps you stop the annoying popup as well.

Instructions on the cookie data and how to change the target cookie have been written for IE7 and FF3. FF2 should be able to follow similar steps as FF3.

Post your question in the tutorial thread:

Greetings!

This next tutorial is actually from a new member, Diangelo.

The thread talks about how to go about redirecting traffic to the main domain from the public_html directory to another directory (public_html/main). This same thread also steps through the process of how to change the directory name of an already configured addon domain.

Please direct all questions to the thread linked to in this post.

This tutorial was created by a new user and it talks about how to get Outlook to properly connect to the HM mail servers using the SSL protocols.

Please post comments and questions to that thread.

I have been falling behind in posting tutorials submitted by our members lately and for that I apologize.

The latest one was actually submitted a few weeks ago and the title basically says it all.

This tutorial will help you organize your site with multiple addon domains, subdomains and other directories using .htaccess redirects. More information can be found in the tutorial thread itself:

http://www.hostmonsterforum.com/showthread.php?t=4533

As always, please post comments and questions in the thread mentioned above.

I would like to thank Blitz for submitting this and ask his apologies in my tardiness in posting this link.

I'm not a Ruby on Rails expert. I can hardly even be called a novice, but I have noticed a bunch of posts on the subject of installing a RoR application in a shared hosting environment.

Here is a tutorial that is well laid out and detailed in its focus. It discusses how to install RoR above the public_html directory to work in a subdomain with it's own domain name (as an addon domain).

hubsmoke is the author if this tutorial and you should direct all comments to the linked thread below.

Thanks to the tremendous work and time from mooredan for this informationn on the problems with Spamassassin running on Hostmonster servers.

This link points to the exact location in the thread where the tutorials start, though reading the entire thing will not hurt in getting the background information on the difficulties of using Spamassassin with Bayes filtering here on Hostmonster.

Enjoy the read and as always, please post your questions in the linked thread below:

Yet another installment of the User Submitted Tutorials thread.

This one comes to us from lineofbirds. It is specific to Joomla! 1.5.x, but the steps are very similar to Joomla! 1.0.x.

As always, post comments and questions in the tutorial thread!
