This is not the first time I use phpMyAdmin, actually, I used it quite often in my localhost in my own PC. Though I use older version, 3.3.9, usually it has an add new database option, right in the middle of the phpMyAdmin homepage. However, I can't find it in the phpMyAdmin homepage in this hosting!

I tried another trick, by adding a new database using the cPanel icon of MySQL databases. Which it does create a new database. But, when I go back to phpMyAdmin, I can't see it in the left pane (which is where it usually has the databases), why is that? Does it mean that phpMyAdmin here can't detect the new database?

If I can't add a new one in phpMyAdmin, and I can't has phpMyAdmin see the new one that I created from outside phpMyAdmin, how can I use the phpMyAdmin to import my database?

I am at loss here, I need the database so that I can upload my Joomla based website.

I solved the problem, though I do not know why it was a problem to start with. I get into phpMyAdmin using a user id that I created when I create the database. For some strange reason, it does not want to show the database that was already created. When I get in using my domain user id, it shows the database, thus I can work on it. So, the moral is, use the domain superuser id to get into phpMyAdmin, DON'T use the user id created in MySQL Databases Icon.

phpMyAdmin on hostmonster does not have the CREATE database enabled!

However, it is simple to set up a database from cpanel first (MySQL Databases - NOT phpMyAdmin!!)
Then add a user (with credentials) to the database in case you need it for CMS or other php script to log in automatically.

Then you can populate the database with tables through php scripts (setup/install) or with SQL statements in phpMyAdmin.

Hope this clarifies - even though you solved your problem ... :)

If your host provider offers a cPanel interface to manage your site, you'll find a menu there to create a MySQL account and database.

In hostmonster (and other hosting services) phpMyAdmin has the "create" function disabled.
USE your Cpanel to:

Create a database
Create at least one user/password
Assign at least one user/password to the database you have created.

NOW you can use phpMyAdmin with YOUR account password to do all other operations ....
AND you can use php scripts to access the database with the assigned username and password (your scripts do not have to use the main account credentials!!!)
