I had noticed some strange behavior by google in relation to crawling my site in the past couple of weeks. I then discovered to my horror that there was a robots.txt file on my site - not put there by me - that appeared to have been put there by "Attracta". Someone suggested that this was a "service" offered by hostmonster. The robots.txt file claimed to give a sitemap of my site - but it was utterly wrong as can be. What's worse, it claimed that the last time I edited my site was several weeks ago which is entirely incorrect. It's screwed up my google ranking and done my site great harm.
I have now deleted the robots.txt but am now nervous that hostmonster or attracta may try and sneak it back on. So my question now is - how to make sure that Attracta never pokes its nose into my site ever again? Is that some "Please go away forever" checkbox I can tick?
