I've just received an email advising me that my server will be physically relocated in a few days. That got me to wondering exactly where are the servers physically located? For example, is "host69" just a folder on someother ISP's server that is leased by HostMonster? Or do they own 100% of the server farm themselves? Or is this something they'd rather keep quiet?

They are located in Provo, UT.

"host69" is not a folder. It is one of the HostMonster shared servers within the cluster on which your website happens to be located.

As to the other part of your question, I see no need to speculate. They were polite enough to inform you of the move. They're probably just moving your website to another server within their facility or moving to another physical facility. Doesn't mean they are changing hands or have no control of their business. As an aside, HostMonster is a sister company of BlueHost.

I realize that they are located in Provo and that they were polite enough to inform the users of the move. What got me wondering is that the notice was only 24 hours in advance. Seems like such an event as a "new data center expansion" would have been planned months in advance with a little more notice to the users.

Now the more interesting part is that my web site on Host69 now resolves to a location in Dulles, Virginia. That's quite an expansion.

Could be that they are transitioning to a location that offers robust infrastructure. Why not speak with a representative directly over LiveChat? I'm sure a lot of other customers would like to know as well.

Hi, I just want to ask? If the server will literally transfer location. Does it affects my site considering the location of the server will be far from my head office? It is said that location sometimes matter. So is there any possibility that I need to consider other option if this is the case?

The phsyical servers were moved from our data center in Orem, UT to our new data center in Provo, UT. We are not co-located with any other entity. The server migrations involved months of planning; we made every attempt to migrate the servers in the most rapid and seamless fashion possible. Regrettably more than 24 hours notice was not immediately available for all circumstances.

If you have questions regarding the server migrations, please speak to us via one of the official support channels.

Thank you,
Chad K.
